One of the leading natural gas producers in the U.S set out to mitigate methane emissions from thousands of pneumatic devices across its Marcellus shale operations. Qnergy’s remote power and compressed air systems were deployed, enabling methane-driven pneumatics to be replaced at scale and on-time.
The Challenge
This operator acknowledged the costly impact of methane emissions from its 8,000+ gas-driven pneumatic devices across all their assets. Despite their pervasive use, the operator launched a 16-month program to replace all active gas pneumatics with alternative solutions that would significantly reduce their methane intensity.
The Solution
For sites with high pneumatic device counts and no access to commercial power, the operator deployed Qnergy’s Compressed Air Pneumatics (CAP) and PowerGen packages across multiple remote wellpads. Additional CAP systems, but without the PowerGen, were deployed at sites with established grid connections. These solutions successfully and reliably replaced the gas-driven pneumatic devices with minimal maintenance and site visits that continue to withstand the freezing temperatures of the U.S North.
The Results
- Minimal maintenance costs and reduced site visits.
- Increased site safety with the use of inert air.
- Eliminated freezing issues with sufficient air dryer design.
- As part of this replacement project, Qnergy systems helped reduce the operator’s methane emissions by 50%.
