A-Rated Carbon Credits Generated from Methane Mitigation Project at Weber County Landfill

Qnergy’s mission to eliminate methane emissions from landfills has reached a new milestone. The company’s Weber County Landfill project in Utah has officially received an ‘A’ rating from BeZero Carbon, recognizing the high likelihood of credits from the project achieving one tonne of CO₂e avoided.

At the heart of the Weber County project is Qnergy’s TORCH4 methane destruction system, powered by the company’s Free Piston Stirling Engine. This system operates autonomously on low-quality, previously stranded landfill gas, or methane, that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere. In this application, the TORCH4 continuously and permanently destroys the methane, converting it into carbon dioxide and water vapor, which are significantly less harmful to the climate.

The project’s carbon credits are issued under the American Carbon Registry’s Landfill Methane Capture and Combustion protocol, and they represent real, measurable, and permanent emissions reductions.

Further, the A-rating from BeZero credits affirms the rigor and transparency behind Qnergy’s approach to methane abatement and underscores the growing role of technology-driven climate solutions in the voluntary carbon market.

As Qnergy continues to expand its methane mitigation program, projects like Weber County demonstrate that innovative engineering and verified climate finance can work hand in hand to turn methane emissions from a liability into an asset.
